This style was popularized worldwide in Ireland. In English it means corpulent or solid, and designates a beer with more body and with more alcohol. The basic stout is an opaque black beer with a bitterness from roasted raw barley to which roasted barley malts are added. This style has little hops so the aroma will be mainly traces of coffee, toffee, cocoa, licorice and caramel.
